Bajaj Scooters are made in India by Bajaj Auto Ltd., a 50+ year old company that has recently produced as many as one million units in a single year. The company started by importing scooters to India, and began its phenomenal growth by forming strategic partnerships with international manufacturers to become one of the worlds largest producers of two and three wheeled vehicles. The company is still involved in international consulting and collaboration with other manufacturers in Japan and Europe, and has the technological expertise to conduct its own R&D on cutting edge products.
The Bajaj Chetak and Legend are, however, not the latest thing to come out of Bajaj R&D. These two scooters are proof that Bajaj is capable of meeting customer needs for economical transportation by guiding the evolution of a tried and proven product. Based on a thirty year production run, both scooters are now powered by a new environmentally friendly 145cc four stroke single cylinder motor, yet it powers a good old steel bodied scooter of the classic "Vespa" style. The Chetak still maintains the charm of a retro classic, while the Legend is more of a contemporary classic.
These scooters have a four speed transmission that is operated through a classic vespa style grip shifter. A four stroke motor means that no oil needs to be mixed with the gas, resulting in low emissions, and high efficiency.
These scooters are the ultimate
in
style... they just look like a scooter is supposed to look. The biggest
surprise they offer is value, the Chetak sells for $2,699.00. Both models have also been
updated to comply with U.S.
D.O.T. regulations, and to better suit the American market. The
